The world is spinning madly on…

The world has been spinning madly on since the new year, so it’s perhaps appropriate that we kick off the new decade with this one from The Weepies. 🙂 Happy 2020, and look out, because it’s debut album year!

… It must be Christmas time!

I can hear people singing – it must be Christmas time… Here’s our seasonal offering for 2019, this time from the pen of Chrissy Hynde of The Pretenders. Seasonal joy to you all from both of us on opposite sides of the Pond. 🙂

Take this sinking boat…

A long-time favourite of Andrea’s, we started recording this during her UK visit in August, but real life got in the way for a little while!

“Falling Slowly” was written during, and featured in the film Once (starring the writers), it won an Academy Award for best original song.

In These Shoes? I don’t think so!

It’s the last day of summer, so it’s time to send it off in style with Kirsty MacColl’s footwear-themed classic! “Should I buy some Barbie dolls?” asked Andrea. “Sure, and now you can learn how to do basic stop-motion filming,” I replied. Hope you enjoy this video as much as we did making it!

Almost Heaven, Aberdeenshire…

During Andrea’s recent visit to Scotland we went out into the wilds with our vocal recorder and did a series of four “Roadside Sessions” (see earlier posts) – however, when we were recording John Denver’s “Country Roads” the lack of West Virginia in north east Scotland led us to play around with the words … and naturally we had to see how far we could take it. So here’s our tribute to Aberdeenshire, and its oft-frigid weather. 😉

We’re off to Never-Never Land!

In October last year, we invited you wonderful folks to send us some song suggestions, and you obliged with some forty titles for us to choose from. Owen’s old university pal Dave sent a fistful of amusing suggestions, ranging from Wham to AC/DC to Abba to Rick Astley, though I daresay he didn’t think we’d actually tackle Metallica.

So get your leathers on and dive into the darkness of childhood nightmares with ENTER SANDMAN… And a slightly belated happy birthday to you, Dave. 🙂

Oh, and also, this video required 11724 miles of air travel to make. 😉

Dear Sir or Madam, can you read my book?

For our final Roadside Session (which was actually the first we recorded), we make a hurried journey to the Edinburgh Fringe (and also Aberdeen) to bring you a tale of desperate ambition from the writing world. You can sing along if you know the refrain. 😉

You always take the weather…

For number three in our series of windy singing locations, we took the lyrics literally, and went everywhere we could, taking as much weather as possible. Join us in this Crowded House classic, as we tour around Aberdeenshire with our Tascam TR-05 gizmotron. A list of locations is at the end of the video. 🙂

I Wish I Was Homeward Bound…

For our second “Roadside Session”, where we go and stand somewhere windy and attempt to record live vocals, we ventured out to Keith in Moray. We borrowed the station to make our version of Simon & Garfunkel’s “Homeward Bound”. Alas there were no trains. 🙂

Almost heaven, Aberdeenshire…

As one of the longest bands in the world, at 3000 miles or so, it’s not that common for us to both be in the same place at the same time. So when that actually happens, it’s time to pull out the recorder and find some scenic spots to do some live singing in. 🙂

Here’s the first of our 2019 “Roadside Sessions” – vocals recorded today, live in The Lord’s Throat on the River Don in Aberdeenshire – John Denver’s all time classic, “Country Roads”.
